Water is at the heart of all spas, regardless of size, facilities and treatments.
“There are no precise criteria for spas … but industry professionals agree a spa should offer steam baths, Jacuzzi, sauna and mineral waters, plus therapeutic treatments like massages and beauty procedures,” explains Caroline Marcoux from market research firm Coach Omnium.
High-end hotels are enhancing facilities, while demand has spread to the three-star level.
“For some, the spa is a luxury for special occasions, while for others it’s part of the art of living,” notes Marcoux. Men now represent a third of the clientele, especially business travellers.
Some 60 %of hotel professionals envision spa and bathroom renovations.
